Strengths the inspectors named:

  • Good in 2023-24 - a school in its fifties, founded in 1973 and unrelated to the GEMS group, with standards strongest in Secondary and Post-16.
  • Students achieve above expectations in Islamic Education, English, mathematics and science, particularly higher up the school.
  • National Agenda benchmark attainment for 2023 very good in English and mathematics and outstanding in science, with the school exceeding its PIRLS target in 2021.
  • Outstanding behaviour, strong maturity and social responsibility, with an excellent understanding of Islamic values and Emirati heritage.
  • A 1:8 teacher-to-student ratio overall - among the most generous in this register - with smaller classes again in Secondary.

What they asked the school to improve:

  • Arabic as an additional language needs development - the standing weakness.
  • Reading-literacy interventions are applied inconsistently, and self-evaluation needs sharper data alignment and monitoring rigour.
  • The governing board is working within financial constraints while trying to improve infrastructure - worth asking what is funded this year, and when.

Inclusion (students of determination): Good - just over 105 students of determination at the January 2024 inspection. Inspectors record that ‘school leaders and governors promote an inclusive ethos which is reflected in many features of school life’, with a recently appointed head of inclusion responsible for implementing policy, formal and informal assessment strategies used to identify needs, individual education plans for students with the most significant needs, and targeted support ensuring students of determination are involved in all learning activities - with personal and social skills developed notably in art lessons and extracurricular activities.
