What the inspectors said
Strengths the inspectors named:
- A large all-through school of 2,957 students from KG1 to Grade 12, opened in 2012 to relieve pressure on the original Al Sufouh campus.
- Teachers’ subject knowledge strongest in the high school, with positive and respectful teacher-student relationships and students described by inspectors as polite.
- Day-to-day management described by inspectors as effective, with clear routines and expectations understood by staff and students, inside the tightly controlled SABIS structure.
- 136 teachers supported by 34 teaching assistants and nine guidance counsellors.
What they asked the school to improve:
- A teacher-to-student ratio of roughly 1:22 - higher than many UK-curriculum schools here - which inspectors link directly to the challenge of personalised learning and curriculum adaptation.
- Teaching quality is more variable in the earlier phases than in the high school.
- Professional development is not consistently linked to lesson-observation outcomes, and assessment information is not routinely used to inform planning - limiting the impact of teaching across the school.
Inclusion (students of determination): 49 students of determination, just under 2% of the roll - one of the lowest proportions in this register, and worth asking about directly. KHDA’s directory and its published 2023-24 ratings table both record this branch as Acceptable for inclusion, matching its overall judgement. Inspectors find that the rigidity of the SABIS system continues to limit the school’s responsiveness to inspection priorities around inclusion, personalised learning and skills development, and that meaningful progress will require greater flexibility in teaching practice and curriculum adaptation.
