What the inspectors said
Strengths the inspectors named:
- Good for all fourteen years in which inspections have been undertaken, since 2008 - including the most recent inspection in February 2024.
- A teacher-to-student ratio of about 1:6 - among the most generous in Dubai - with around 175 students and 26 teachers, appointed from Japan’s Ministry of Education.
- Good progress by students in most key subjects, and a school inspectors describe as well led, with all leaders sharing a vision that is being achieved.
- The only school in the emirate delivering the Japanese national curriculum: for a Japanese family wanting continuity with schooling in Japan, there is no alternative here.
What they asked the school to improve:
- Inspectors’ own picture is mixed: issues were noted around compliance with UAE Ministry of Education requirements, and around governance - specifically the transitory nature of appointees, since staff and principals rotate on a regular cycle.
- Provision of resources and facilities was also flagged.
- Fourteen cycles at Good with little change across the six key performance standards: stability rather than momentum, which for many families here is exactly the point - but ask what a rotating leadership can commit to beyond its posting.
Inclusion (students of determination): We have not found a published inclusion rating for this school in the sources we can verify, and we say so rather than infer one. It is a Japanese national curriculum school established in 1980 by the Northern Association of Japanese Community, serving a specific expatriate community, and its provision should be assessed on its own terms rather than against schools built for a different intake.
